Note: For stepparent adoptions, petitioner must be married to and living with the parent with legal custody (G.S. 48-4-101). For close relative adoptions (G.S. 48-4-100), petitioner must be a grandparent, aunt/uncle, or sibling.

STATUS OF BIOLOGICAL / LEGAL PARENT
A separate Consent to Adoption (AOC-SP-162) must be completed and notarized by this parent. The consent cannot be revoked after 7 days from signing (G.S. 48-3-608).

ICPC & HOME STUDY
A home study is required for close relative (non-stepparent) adoptions under G.S. 48-3-303 unless waived by the Court.
