JUDICIAL ORDER — KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Companion to the G-401 Motion to Seal — file the motion first
  • Judge must make specific written findings — general findings are insufficient
  • Order must identify the sealed records by name and date, not just "all records"
  • Notice must be given to all parties; publication required if practical
  • Any party may petition to unseal; appeal by media is authorized
  • Clerk must maintain sealed records separately from the public file
  • Sealed records remain subject to appellate review
