LANGUAGE ACCESS — KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

  • NC courts must provide interpreters for LEP (Limited English Proficiency) parties and witnesses at no cost
  • Request as early as possible — certified interpreters may need 2–3 weeks to schedule
  • Court-certified interpreters are required in criminal cases and termination of parental rights proceedings
  • For civil cases, certified interpreters are strongly preferred
  • Attorney-provided interpreters are NOT acceptable for in-court proceedings
  • Contact the courthouse ADA/LEP coordinator directly to confirm scheduling
