IMPORTANT: A Prayer for Judgment Continued is granted only at the court's discretion. Only one PJC is allowed per household per rolling 3-year period for insurance purposes. Filing this form does not guarantee a PJC. Consult a licensed NC attorney before proceeding — a mistake here affects your insurance rates for years.

NEED AN ATTORNEY?

A PJC is at the court's sole discretion. An experienced traffic attorney dramatically improves your odds and handles all filing correctly.

WHAT IS A PJC?

  • Prayer for Judgment Continued = judgment is "continued" indefinitely — no conviction entered
  • No conviction means no insurance points and no DMV driver's license points (typically)
  • The court retains jurisdiction — it can impose judgment later if you reoffend
  • Only available for certain offenses — serious charges (DWI, reckless) are excluded
  • Referenced under G.S. 15A-101 and long-standing NC common law

STATUTORY REFERENCE

G.S. 15A-101Judgment definitions

THE 3-YEAR HOUSEHOLD RULE

  • Only ONE PJC per household per rolling 3-year period qualifies for the insurance exemption
  • "Household" means everyone on the same auto policy
  • A second PJC in 3 years will still be treated as a conviction by your insurer
  • This is the most common mistake — check your policy before applying
